Location
Ajka is decisive importance city in Central Transdanubia, center of Ajka district, where live 36 764 people. The city is situated along the fault line, which divides the north and south strand of Bakony, south from the main road 8.
The road traffic is expected to increase as the results of the current and expected future developments - among other things on the Austrian side - as a result, gradually evolves into a European significance transit corridor. Budapest-Székesfehérvár-Szombathely Nr. 20 electrified railway line provides Ajka’s rail connection. The rail line is currently part of Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T core network), this is "Mediterranean" corridor on its fantasy name. According to its significance modernization, expansion of the single-track section between Székesfehérvár-Boba is in progress in 2014-2020 cycle.
Road distance from the town's county town (Veszprém) 37 kilometers; from the lake - one of its most prominent town, named Balatonfüred - only 40 kilometers, but it has not significant tourism income. The closest situated, similar, but larger populations city in this area, Ajka located 41 kilometers from Pápa, so thanks to the fully provided institutional functions Ajka play special role in the central region.

The cluster organization:
The city's initiative, automotive parts manufacturer and engaged in other business activities of mechanical and secondary and higher educational institutions and economic development organizations formed Ajka Mechatronics and Automotive Cluster with 24 members in 2007. After it's expanded with Veszprém innovation clusters in 2012, it has changed the name to Bakony Balaton Mechatronics and Automotive Cluster. With this decision it became the largest cluster organization of Transdanubia with 37 members, which in 2014 earned the highest available cluster degree, named "Accreditation for Innovation".

Founded by Neumann Bernard in 1878 Ajka glass factory at the turn of the century has become a world-famous: it was a gold medal awarded participant in the 1896 Millennium exhibition, the Paris in 1900 Exposition and the 1904 St. Louis exhibition. In the 2 factories of Ajka Chrystal 1,000 people work to build producing world-class products. Thanks to the ancient technology (workers blows the glass to shape with mouth) and high-quality handmade glass manufacturing processes, the 90-96% of manufactured products are sold at the export market.

Bakonyi Power Plant Plc.
Bakonyi Power Plant Company started its main activity in 1943, coal-based electricity production, which is connected to the national electricity system through a 120 kV transmission line since 1949. According to the environmental standards to significantly reduce of the air pollution, the company has started firing with biomass in 2004. Recognizing the potential opprtunities of renewable energies the company has created the first wind power plant in Hungary in 2000.
